SOCIAL WORKER

One-year contract position – renewable subject to a performance evaluation

Salary: R 214 000 per annum CTC

Purpose:

To provide counselling, coaching and psychosocial support services to students, graduates, interns, staff
and families.

Minimum requirements:

  • Degree in Social Work.
  • Registered with the SA Council for Social Service Professions (SACSSP).
  • Min of 3 years’ relevant Social Worker experience.
  • Experience working with young adults.
  • Counseling experience in trauma, loss and substance abuse.
  • A valid driver’s license is compulsory.
  • A well-established network of referrals.
  • Competent in English and at least 1 other South African language, preferably isiXhosa.
  • Well-grounded, non-smoker with sober habits.
  • The flexibility to work over some weekends, in-line with the Academy’s course calendar is essential.
  • Display exemplary leadership/role modelling, share the Academy’s values & embody the holistic
    approach.

  • Provide coaching services to the Instructor Team and Interns at the Academy.
  • Co-facilitate parent and family workshops.
  • Facilitation of life skills programmes for students, Instructors and graduates.
  • Provide therapeutic support groups for students, (e.g. Substance Abuse group, Positive Parenting, etc.)

Monthly Salary: R 5000

Minimum Requirements:

  • Grade 12 certificate.
  • Minimum 3-years experience in youth development (particularly working with communities).
  • Sound computer literacy and report writing.
  • Non-smoker with sober habits.
  • Must reside in any of the above or surrounding areas and have a good rapport amongst the
    community members.

Key Performance Areas:

  • Plan, coordinate and implement the Chrysalis Academy Youth Hub daily activities in communities.
  • Facilitate workshops in communities (fitness programmes, work readiness, computer skills, etc.).
  • Regular check-ins with graduates in communities.
  • Plan, coordinate and implement community service projects.
  • Recruitment of interested youth who wish to join the Academy’s 3-month residential programme.
  • Regular monitoring and tracking of the Academy’s graduates.
  • Sourcing of employment or training opportunities for graduates in the community.
  • Weekly and monthly report writing and administration.

Skills and competencies required:

  • Highly confident, self-disciplined and self-motivated individual.
  • Creative thinking and able to work independently.
  • Ability to take and give instructions.

LAUNDRY ASSISTANT

(Contract position: R 63 000 CTC per annum)

Purpose:

To assist with the laundry services for Chrysalis Academy

Minimum requirements:

  • A certificate in Laundry Services / Sewing Course will be advantageous
  • At least 3 – 5 years’ relevant laundry experience (Industrial laundry equipment)
  • Understanding the holistic approach to youth development
  • Non-smoker and sober habits
  • Competent (verbal and written) in English and at least 1 other South African language

  • Ability to work under pressure

Key performance areas:

  •  To assist with effective and efficient laundry services to the Academy
  • Washing, drying and ironing of students and staff uniforms, curtains, tablecloths etc.

  • Assist with repairs / needle work of torn garments/clothing
  • Ensure health and safety measures are adhered to
  • Ad-hoc responsibilities assigned within the Academy

PROGRAMME OFFICER

Chrysalis Academy is currently looking to train graduates who are interested in becoming a Sports Coach Intern at the Academy

Minimum requirements:

  • Matric Certificate / Grade 12.
  • No criminal record.
  • Youth work experience is advantageous. 
  • Excellent fitness levels. 
  • Passionate about youth work.
  • The ability to work flexi-time, in line with the Academy’s course calendar is essential.

PROGRAMME OFFICER

1-year contract position – renewable subject to a performance evaluation

The position is responsible for the:

  • Co-ordination of the Academy’s programme offerings as part of the Western Cape Safety Plan and Youth Hub Ambassador Programme.
  • Co-ordination of the Academy’s training, seminars and therapeutic offerings to clients.
  • Coordination of social entrepreneurship projects.

Minimum requirements:

  • Grade 12 and a qualification in Project Management/Youth Development/Gender Studies or any other equivalent qualification.
  • 3 – 5 years year holistic development experience (Community, Gender and Youth Development).
  • 3 – 5 year manual and curriculum development experience.
  • 3 – 5 years working peace-building and violence prevention strategies.
  • 3 – 5 year training and facilitation experience.
  • Understanding of mind-body therapeutic practices.
  • Qualitative and quantitative research experience.
  • Knowledge of social entrepreneurship.
  • A valid driver’s license is essential.
  • Competent in English and at least one other South African language.
  • Well-grounded, non-smoker with sober habits.

Skills and competence:

  • Excellent facilitation skills.

The Chrysalis Academy facilitates Outdoor Programmes to its residential students and for youth including school going youth. These programmes are

2 ADMINISTRATION CLERKS

R4500 CTC per annum

Requirements:

  • Grade 12 certificate with a certificate in Office Administration/Computer Studies.
  • At least 2 years’ relevant office administration experience.
  • Competent in English and at least 1 other South African language.

  • Understanding the holistic approach to youth development.

TRAINING & DEVELOPMENT DEPARTMENT

  • Assist with preparation of course documents (student manuals, attendance registers, forms etc.).
  • Managing telephone calls, filing, copying, binding, scanning and collating of documents.
  • File and archive all course documentations e.g. class registers, daily handover docs, roll calls sheets, disciplinary documents etc. at the end of the course.
  • Prepare documentation and notices for students, hostels, rooms and training venues as relevant for each phase of the course
  • Assist with set-up requirements for training venues on the programme.
  • Capturing forms completed by students (evaluation forms, roll call, registers, etc.).
  • Update and maintain databases.

COMMUNITY LIAISON – GRADUATE AFTERCARE & SUPPORT COMPONENT
(EPWP ADMINISTRATION)

  • Collect & verify timesheets of EPWP Interns.
  • Coordinate all EPWP payment related enquires.
  • Maintain leave administration of EPWP interns.
  • Monitoring & tracking and updating the graduate databases.
  • Coordinate signing in/out of library books.
  • Coordinate computer bookings in the Resource Centre.
  • Assist with the preparation of recruitment, intake, graduation and refresher courses.
