Chrysalis Academy is currently looking to train individuals who are interested in becoming Youth Hub Ambassadors for the Academy!

Please note: Applicants must reside in one of the following areas/surrounding areas: Philippi, Bishop Lavis, Elsies River, Harare, Samora Machel, and Malmesbury.

Requirements:

  • Grade 12 certificate.
  • Minimum 3-years experience in youth development (particularly working with communities).
  • Sound computer literacy and report writing.
  • Non-smoker with sober habits.

Skills and competencies:

  • Plan, coordinate and implement the Chrysalis Academy Youth Hub daily activities in communities.
  • Facilitate workshops in communities (fitness programmes, work readiness, computer skills, etc.).
  • Regular check-ins with graduates in communities.
  • Plan, coordinate and implement community service projects.
  • Recruitment of interested youth who wish to join the Academy’s 3-month residential programme.
  • Regular monitoring and tracking of the Academy’s graduates.
  • Sourcing of employment or training opportunities for graduates in the community.
  • Weekly and monthly report writing and administration.

Key performance areas:

  • Highly confident, self-disciplined and self-motivated individual.
  • Creative thinking and able to work independently.
  • Ability to take and give instructions.
  • Willing to work flexible hours with enthusiasm.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Sound administration, project planning and report writing skills.
  • Physically fit.
  • Ability to teach graduates basic drill commands is advantageous.
  • Good supervisory & facilitation skills.
  • Must share and be a living example of the Chrysalis Academy values.

Kindly note the following:

  • Training will start at the Academy on the 25 September 2023 until 29 September 2023 and is residential.   
  • Once training is completed, one candidate per area will appointed as a Youth Hub Ambassador for their area.  A basic monthly salary of R 5300.00 will then become applicable.

GENERAL CLEANER

1 year contract position -renewable subject to a performance evaluation (Basic Salary: R5,250 per month)

Purpose:

  • To ensure cleaning, stocking, and supplying cleaning materials to designated facilities at Chrysalis Academy.

Requirements:

  • A certificate in Cleaning Services will be advantageous;
  • At least 3 – 5 years’ relevant cleaning experience (Industrial cleaning equipment);
  • Understanding the holistic approach to youth development;
  • Non-smoker leading a healthy and sober lifestyle; and
  • Competent (verbal and written) in English and at least 1 other South African language.

Skills and competencies:

  • Ability to work effectively and economically with cleaning chemicals;
  • Ability to move equipment (tables and chairs) across the campus into different venues;
  • Attention to detail;
  • Good time management skills;
  • Ability to work under pressure; and
  • Ability to multi-task.

Key performance areas:

  • Ensure that the Academy’s facilities are cleaned and well maintained (halls, hostels, classrooms, outdoor and tented camps);
  • Ensure that the venues and ablutions across multiple venues are cleaned and well maintained;
  • Ensure that the walls, floors & windows are cleaned and well maintained;
  • Replenish sanitation at select venues;
  • Assist with setting up an mopping up of certain venues as needed; and
  • Ad-hoc responsibilities assigned within the Academy.

SENIOR YOUTH INSTRUCTOR (x2) – Monthly Salary: R 7700

JUNIOR YOUTH INSTRUCTOR (x1) – Monthly Salary: R 4700

Please note: Youth Instructor positions are residential and includes free accommodation, food and uniform.

Requirements:

  • A valid Matric certificate / equivalent.
  • Diploma / certificate in Youth Development, Youth Care, Community Development or Safety in Society is advantageous.
  • A valid driver’s licence.
  • Youth development experience (working with young adults).
  • Completed the Chrysalis Academy’s 3-month Youth Development training programme as a student.
  • First Aid, Fire Fighting & outdoor facilitation experience would be advantageous.
  • Understanding the holistic approach to youth development.
  • Experience in working in a regimented and structured environment.
  • The flexibility to work shifts is essential, in line with the Academy’s course calendar.

Fieldworker

(Monthly Salary: R14 000)

Purpose:
To provide graduate training & support at different placement institutions in and
around the Western Cape.

Requirements:

  • A valid Grade 12 certificate / equivalent.
  • A certificate in community development/child and youth care or any related qualification would be advantageous.
  • At least 3 years’ relevant experience.
  • Understanding the holistic approach to youth development.
  • A valid driver’s license is essential.
  • Non-smoker with sober habits.
  • Competent (verbal and written) in English and at least 1 other South African language.
  • Ability to drive to placement institutions in and around the Western Cape.

STUDENT ADMINISTRATOR

Monthly Salary: R 11 130

Purpose:
To provide administrative and clerical services in order to ensure effective and efficient administrative operations in the Community Liaison department.

Requirements:

  • Grade 12 certificate (or equivalent) with a certificate in office administration/computer studies.
  • Minimum 5 years’ relevant office administration experience.
  • Database management experience (learner management system advantageous).
  • Supervisory experience and skills.
  • Facilitation experience and skills.
  • Competent in English and Afrikaans (an additional South African language will be advantageous).

  • Send communication to applicants and students for student recruitments, intakes and graduations.
  • Set-up venues for student recruitments, intakes and graduations.
  • Record keeping, filing and archiving of documentation.
  • Compile statistics and assist with drafting of quarterly reports and ad hoc assignments.
  • Presentations to key stakeholders.
  • Provide facilitation support to the student programme where required.

LAUNDRY ASSISTANT

(Contract position: R 66 000 CTC per annum)

Purpose:
To assist the Academy’s students, residential staff and clients with laundry services.

Requirements:

  • A certificate in Laundry Services / Sewing Course will be advantageous.
  • At least 3 – 5 years’ relevant laundry experience (Industrial laundry equipment).
  • Understanding the holistic approach to youth development.
  • Non-smoker and sober habits.
  • Competent (verbal and written) in English and at least 1 other South African language.

Skills and competencies:

  • Good communication skills.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Good time management skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure.

Key performance areas:

  • To assist the Academy with effective and efficient laundry services.
  • Washing, drying and ironing of students and staff uniforms, curtains, tablecloths etc.
  • Assist with effective and efficient operating of washing and sewing machines.
  • Assist with repairs / needle work of torn garments/clothing as needed.
  • Ensure health and safety measures are adhered to.
  • Ad-hoc responsibilities assigned within the Academy.

GROUNDSMAN ASSISTANT

(Contract position: R72 000 per annum)

Purpose:
To ensure that the grounds at Chrysalis Academy are well maintained.

Requirements:

  • A certificate in brush cutter or chainsaw is advantageous.
  • At least 3 years’ relevant ground maintenance experience (Industrial equipment on huge grounds).
  • Brushcutter and chainsaw experience is essential.
  • A valid driver’s licence is advantageous.
  • Non-smoker and sober habits.
  • Competent in English and at least 1 other South African language.

Skills and competencies:

  • Ability to operate a weed eater and other gardening equipment skills.
  • Ability to work as part of a team.
  • Knowledge of health & safety.
  • Good time management skills.

  • Ensure that the Academy’s grounds are well maintained.
  • Maintain flower beds and cutting of grass.
  • Assist with the Academy’s waste management.
  • Removal of litter across the Academy.
  • Assist with setting up and mopping up of certain venues as needed.

MAINTENANCE ASSISTANT

(Contract position: R 84 000 per annum)

Purpose:
To provide general maintenance on the Porter Estate.

Requirements:

  • A valid matric certificate.
  • A certificate in Plumbing, Water Proofing, Painting, Glazing, Electrical and/or Carpentry.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ relevant and appropriate maintenance experience (e.g. plumbing, water proofing, painting, glazing, electrical, carpentry, swimming pool etc.).
  • General experience in maintaining large buildings and grounds.
  • Driver’s Licence will be advantageous.
  • Well-grounded, non smoker with sober habits.

Skills and competencies:

  • Ability to use maintenance tools and equipment.
  • Health and Safety conscious.
  • Punctual.

  • Good time management skills and work ethics.

Key performance areas:

  • Attend to general maintenance like plumbing, building, painting, glazing, and electrical, carpentry.
  • Ensure that the Chrysalis Academy’s buildings and grounds/ gardens are kept in an excellent condition.
  • Assist in treating and maintaining the swimming pool.
  • Clearing blocked drains, toilets and urinals.
  • Assist with any other task that may be required (e.g. assisting the grounds team with grass cutting).

Purpose:
To provide administrative support to NatureWorx, the academy’s Outdoor Adventure Leadership programmes that include supporting the Western Cape Government’s Safety Plan. These programmes are holistic and healing-centred, focussing on both adventure leadership activities and therapeutic activities aimed at personal transformation.

Requirements:

  • Grade 12 certificate.
  • A certificate in Administration/Computer Studies.
  • At least 3 – 5 years’ relevant administration experience.
  • Facilitation experience is advantageous.
  • A valid Driver’s License is advantageous.
  • Understanding the holistic approach to youth development.
  • Non-smoker and sober habits.
  • Competent (verbal and written) in English and at least 1 other South African language.
