Our role as a chrysalis
We wholeheartedly believe in the unique potential of every young person. As a strong voice of encouragement, Chrysalis Academy is a youth development centre that aims to help young people discover their inner potential and develop themselves into agents of positive change, both in their local communities and in the workplace.

As we combine our values of professionalism, excellence and integrity with a passion for the outdoors and a deep love for humanity, we endeavour to help mentor young people practically and intentionally.
As a result, we get to see them emerge stronger, more resilient, and as full-grown confident individuals who are ready to flourish as passionate, purposeful and skilled individuals.
What We do
Our role as a launchpad
Training
We run three courses annually with 230 students per course.
Youth Hubs
We strengthen graduate support through our 14 Youth Hubs located in high-risk areas.
Awareness
We equip youth at our MultiMedia Hub to amplify their voices and spread positive awareness through media, photography, writing and podcasts.
Support
We provide psychosocial support including Trauma Release Exercise as a holistic approach to help students heal.
Internships
We provide youth with a one year internship, in partnership with the Western Cape Government.

History & Milestones
Our Journey: From humble beginnings…
Founded in 2000, Chrysalis Academy has become a leader in youth development across South Africa.
In 2012, as a response to community violence, CA deepened its holistic approach, and introduced Tension & Trauma Release Exercises (TRE®) to help students heal.
In 2025, we will celebrate 25 years of helping young people thrive!
The Academy has grown to include Youth Hubs in 14 high risk areas; Natureworx, a fully fledged nature-based leadership development unit, and a MultiMedia Hub to amplify youth voices.

Reporting

The Board of Trustees meets quarterly to review the work of the Academy, and adopt a detailed quarterly report on all aspects of the academy’s work. External Auditors perform annual audits and are rotated every five years.
